What We Can Do
The University of Portsmouth can draw upon the combined expertise of over 1000 academic and research staff - from renowned scientists and technologists to experienced management consultants. These resources are co-ordinated by the Research and Knowledge Transfer Service, which acts as the interface between the University and commercial customers. RDS is committed to offering a high quality seamless service.
There is also a strong commitment to research and development in every Faculty, and the University has specialist centres dedicated to providing specific services to business including:
- Regional Centre for Manufacturing Industry (RCMI)
A "Centre of Excellence" for innovative production and process development - Centre for Enterprise Research and Innovation (CERI)
Assisting businesses and especially SMEs to develop their business strategies and working practices. Advice on benchmarking, market research and HR management is also available. - Materials Testing and Analysis
A wide range of testing services are available including: an impact and stress laboratory; noise measurement; RFI and EMC measurement; material failure analysis and fatigue integrity assessment; and chemical analysis - Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CCEPD)
Specialise in all aspects of Continuing Professional Development and tailoring materials to meet the specific needs of individual customers. Providing courses for many professional groups and designing, organising and presenting customised conferences, lectures, seminars and residential short courses. - Institute of Industrial Research
The Institute of Industrial Research (IIR) has been established to enable industry and businesses to become more globally competitive through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques.
